This is one of my favorite comic book series. It has no peer. A dramatic telling of a wandering ronin in a fantastic version of feudal Japan. While entirely anthropomorphic, this is not a comedy or a humor comic, though there are comedic elements. It delves into themes of love, loss, revenge, loyalty, ethics, longing and belonging. The stories are beautiful drawn, heartfelt and brimming with action and violence, without using gratuitous imagery. Just masterful storytelling from one of our national treasures. This is one of the longest running series by one creator in the history of comics and still as wonderful as it was when it started. This is the rare 1st printing of the first collection published by Fantagraphics and has been reprinted numerous times in various formats.
