January by Ren Hang
Self-published in 2016.
This was part of Ren Hang’s series, where he would release a new zine every month for a year. The production values of these publications is much higher than what you would expect from a zine. Entirely in color, Hang’s signature images jump out from the pages. One of the most vibrant photographers to come along in the last decade, essentially transforming the nude image, Hang departed much too young, leaving behind a monumental body of work.
This publication has a stated print run of 500. But I’ve been told by a number of collectors that the number of copies published was the same as the other issues in the series, which is 100. Either way, this issue is extremely hard to find. I’ve not seen one offered anywhere for months.
This is in excellent condition, but there is a bent corner, visible in the front and back of zine (see pictures).
